Nicole Sue Mecham Hopkins

Nicole Sue Mecham Hopkins, 44, of Firth, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in her home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous fight with cancer.

Nicole was born in Idaho Falls on August 12, 1973 to Phillip and Nancy Ricker Mecham of Firth. She grew up and attended school in Firth, where she graduated from high school.

She married Troy Hopkins in July of 1992. To this union two children were born: Megan and Brooke. They were later divorced.

She returned to studying for her undergraduate at Boise State University and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She began her profession thereafter as a special education teacher. After a few years of teaching, she returned to get her master’s degree.

Nicole moved back to Firth in 2016 after raising her daughters. She taught special education at Firth Middle school up till she was diagnosed with cancer.

She became a very proud grandma to Emmy Lou in March of 2017. Her pride and joy were her daughters, son in law, and granddaughter. She lived a selfless life, sacrificing her own wants and needs for others, especially her daughters.

She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter and her daughters. She also enjoyed camping with her family and going on walks. She enjoyed coaching basketball at Firth Middle School and loved the girls she coached.

Nicole is survived by her daughter, Megan (Michael) Pullicar of Rexburg; daughter, Brooke Hopkins of Firth; granddaughter Emmy Lou Pullicar; parents, Phil and Nancy Mecham of Firth; brothers and sisters, Kim (Dan) Iszler of Pocatello; Jason (Angela) Mecham of Firth; Kristi (Ryan) Lunceford of Pocatello; Tyler (Tasi) Mecham of Idaho Falls; Trevor (Kylie) Mecham of Grace; Grandpa Leland Ricker of Shelley; Grandma Mildred Mecham of Firth.

She is preceded in death by her Grandma Betty Ricker and Grandpa Hyrum Mecham.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Firth Stake Center (823 N 675 E) in Basalt. The family will meet with friends Sunday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) Shelley and Monday from 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Firth Cemetery.
