Phoenix Marie Ray was born March 30, 1949 near Eugene, Oregon. She had one sister, Lucy. She was the mother of 5 children. She graduated from high school and attended some college. She was very well educated, through reading and studying.
Phoenix enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 8, 1967 and served as a clerical specialist in Alabama and San Francisco until July 9, 1968.
She decided to move north to Alaska where she worked as a bookkeeper. She lived near Trapper Creek, Alaska, She loved the isolation of her home there. Her living conditions were pretty primitive. She had electrical power and running water, but her bathroom was outside in a privy in that cold climate!
She enjoyed training dogs and had two dogs she had trained as service dogs for emotional support. Most recently she and Robert acquired another large and sweet dog, Abby, that she was in the process of training.
Phoenix and Robert Rowley were married on March 2, 2012, in the Anchorage, Alaska temple. She moved to where Robert was living in Kenai, Alaska. The cost of living was very high, so they started researching possible places in the continental United States that had lower cost of living. They ended up in Idaho, stayed with some friends in Mud Lake, and found the property in Firth.
Phoenix was a very accomplished seamstress. She liked to make her own patterns. She also loved to cook and make gourmet meals. Her sewing room/office is the epitome of organization, as is her kitchen. No one in Bingham County has as many spices and flavorings as the Rowley household–all alphabetized and neatly stacked in rows of shelves.
Her health problems became numerous in the last few years. She suffered from macular degeneration, spinal issues and most recently, cancer.
She is loved by many friends, including her friend, Ruth from Utah, and especially her dear husband, Robert.
