Richard Markeson

Richard Carl Markeson of Idaho Falls passed away at the age of 81 on Sunday, August 8th, at his home after a brave battle with cancer.

     He was born on February 6, 1929 to Clarence A. Markeson and Myrtle Benson Markeson on the Markeson Homestead in LaSalle, Minnesota.

     His childhood years were spent in Blackfoot and then Idaho Falls.  Richard attended Washington Grade School and graduated from Shelley High School, Class of 1947.  Moving with his parents to Butler Creek Ranch in Missoula, Montana, he ranched with his father while attending the University of Montana before being drafted into the United States Army.  He spent 3 years in the service and then returned as a Veteran to Idaho Falls. 

     Richard became a banker, moving to California, and then a successful business man in Tucson, Arizona, where he spent the next 30 years.  He enjoyed golfing, traveling and was an active member of The American Legion Post 236 and The Loyal Order of Moose Thunder Mountain Arizona Lodge 2475.  After his retirement he enjoyed splitting his time between Tucson and Idaho Falls.

     He is survived by his loving partner Sharon Rose Markeson, children; Karla (Wayne) Keller, Richard (Janet) Markeson II, Larry (Lori) Markeson; 11 grandchildren and 6 1/2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother Clyde Markeson of Spokane and Sister Elaine Johnson of Phoenix, along with many devoted nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Myrtle Markeson, brother Leland Markeson and brother-in-law Keith Johnson.

     Grave side services will be held Wednesday, August 18th, at Taylor Cemetery, (east of Shelley) at 11:30 A. M. with military rites by David B. Bleak Post 93 of Shelley.   The family will receive friends at a reception following the service, New Sweden Hall at the Historic 1897 Riverdale Grange from 1-3 P. M.
