Richard Ray Whitmill

October 30, 1928 — August 20, 2007

Richard Ray Whitmill, 78, of Ammon, formerly of Goshen, passed away August 20, 2007 at his home under the care of Creekside Hospice.

He was born October 30, 1928 in Shelley, Idaho to Lee and Ida May Prophet Whitmill. He attended school in Shelley, graduating from Shelley High School. In his early years he worked for potato houses on Spud Alley in Shelley, Idaho. 

On September 1, 1947 he married Verna Byrl McInelly in Goshen, Idaho at the home of the bride. After marrying, he lived in Shelley for two years and then moved to Goshen where he lived for the next 51 years before moving to Ammon. 

He worked for the Bingham County Road and Bridge Department for 39 years, building and maintaining most of the roads in the north end of the county.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Ray was a collector of antiques and everything else that caught his fancy.  He always had a garden and enjoyed sharing his produce with everyone. He loved hunting and fishing.  He adored his family, especially the grandchildren, and looked forward to their visits.  He loved attending sports events and activities with his children and grand children.

He is survived by his wife Verna Whitmill of Ammon, ID, daughter Verna Rae (LaMar) John of Idaho Falls, ID, son Larry Joseph Whitmill of Idaho Falls, ID, daughter Doris Kae (Eric) Russell of Shelley, ID; son Dennis Richard (Kristy) Whitmill of Ammon, ID; son Kelly Lee (Crystal) Whitmill of Longmont, CO, 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, siblings;  Rhea (Buck-deceased) Nelson, Marlene (Wendall-deceased) Crow, Jim (Betty) Whitmill, and Ted (Marilyn) Whitmill .

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Leo, Don and Garth Whitmill. 

Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday August 25, 2007 at the Presto Ward Chapel (792 North 1090 East) in Goshen with Bishop David Schiess conducting.  The family will receive friends Friday, August 24th from 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Saturday 12:00 till 12:40 P.M. at the church.  Interment will be in the Goshen Cemetery.
