Robert Leslie Nate

Robert “Bob” Leslie Nate of Shelley, Idaho, 83, passed away on October 22, 2011 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Bob was born on April 8, 1928 to Odella and Leslie Nate in Dingle, Idaho.  He spent his childhood and attended grade school in Dingle; he then attended high school in Montpelier, Idaho.  These small towns formed a basis for Bob’s outlook to life.  He was a member of the LDS Church.

On September 28, 1954 he married Carol Jean Hyden in Garden City, Utah.  They had two boys, Curtiss and Randy Nate and made their home in Shelley, Idaho where he worked at the R.T. French Company for many years.

Bob often reminisced of the good old days on his fathers’ Crow Creek Ranch in Afton, Wyoming.  He took pride in working cattle, participated in overnight stays in the mountains, and remembered when transportation was done by horse. “Those were simpler days,” he would say.

There were accomplishments in Bob’s life that were significant but nothing more meaningful than when he received his B.S. degree from Utah State University in 1962 in Production Management with a minor in Economics.  He maintained a GPA of 3.9 while working and the birth of his first son, Curtiss.

Another significant event was the cabin he built with his family and friends on the Nate homestead west of Afton, Wyoming.  The cabin on Crow Creek has many memories.  There were many celebrations, beautiful starry nights, sitting around the fire pit, and enjoying the mountains.

The last few years of his life, Bob found comfort and friendship at Collett’s Bar in Firth, Idaho.  He enjoyed sharing stories, making new acquaintances and spending time at what he referred to as the “office.”  They truly knew his name…..”Bob”. 

Bob leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Carol and sons, Curtiss (Lisa) and Randy Nate.  The girls in his life were his granddaughters: Jordan Andreason, Chelsey Neff, Morgan Nate, Mikaela and Caitlin Nate.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Shelley Fourth Ward Chapel (184 North Park).  The family will receive friends Friday morning from 9:30 till 10:40 a.m. before the services at the church.  Interment will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley.
