Sarah Crook Allred

December 14, 1920 — March 13, 2006

Sarah Crook Allred, 85, of Shelley passed away Monday evening, March 13, 2006 at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living Center in Idaho Falls, from pancreatic cancer. She was under the care of Aspen Hospice.

Sarah was born December 14, 1920, in a little log house in Iona, the youngest of nine children born to Willard Hyrum Crook and Alzada Angeline Welker. She went to school in Lincoln, Idaho Falls, and then Ammon. She graduated from Ammon High School.

She married Grant Robinson Allred in the Salt Lake Temple on January 23, 1941. They lived in Osgood, Idaho Falls, and Shelley. They moved to Shelley in 1956 and have lived there ever since that time.

Sarah has faithfully served her family, her church, and her friends. She has served in many different church positions including temple ordinance worker for ten years, Relief Society presidencies, Primary teacher, president, and councilor, Mutual teacher, ward and meetinghouse librarian, and faithful visiting teacher. She and her husband served a mission to the Family History Center in Salt Lake, and she also worked in the name extraction program in Shelley. She worked faithfully on genealogy and on keeping family records updated. She was also a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Sarah will be remembered for her beautiful handwork and handwriting, her talent in sewing, and the many awesome Christmas gifts she made for her grandchildren. She was definitely an elite lady and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her well.

Sarah is survived by her husband of 65 years, Grant, and six children: Karen (Edwin) Daw of Chubbuck, Lane (Harriet) Allred of Lometa, Texas, Janis (Steve) Porter of Idaho Falls, Val (Susan) Allred of Middletown, California, Nyla (Steve) Aitken of Shelley, and Delwin (Susan) Allred of Shelley, 30 grandchildren, and 50 great-grandchildren (with at least three more on the way). She was preceded in death by a son, Doyle, a granddaughter, Treasa Daw, her parents, and all of her siblings, Orilla, Leorin, Pearl, Hazel, Thelma, Lasell, Hubert, and Shirrel. What a joyful reunion she must be having at this time!

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M Friday March 17 at the Shelley Eighth Ward Chapel (184 North Park) in Shelley with Bishop Lynn Beck conducting. The family will receive friends Thursday evening 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Friday morning 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the church.
