Shane D. Stears

Shane D. Stears passed away February 4, 2017. Shane was born July 21, 1943 to Elven and Bertha Stears in Idaho Falls, ID. Shane grew up in the Shelley area and graduated from Shelley High School.

Shane grew up working on the family farm then began a long career in road construction. He spent 37 years in construction and worked from Texas to Alaska and California to Colorado. It is hard to travel in the West without driving on a section of road that Shane built.

Shane married the love of his life, Kathryn Browning, March 29, 1963 and they have four children. Shane was a rock for his family right to the end.

Shane loved the outdoors and spent time with his family camping and fishing whenever possible. Shane went fishing the first time at six weeks old when his mother packed him down to Island Park’s Coffee Pot rapids; he must have loved it because he never quit fishing his entire life. Shane had a special passion for Steelhead fishing and spent the last 54 years of his life perfecting his technique. Shane also enjoyed golf, hunting, and trapshooting.

Late in life, Shane and Kathy would park their 5th-wheel at his sister’s cabin in Island Park; they would spend a few days each summer week relaxing and smelling the pine trees.

Shane is survived by his wife, sister, Donna Harker, brother, Kent Stears; his children, Suzie Stears, Mike (Peggy) Stears, Kristine Stears, Jamie (Cash) Duffin, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nona Becker.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Taylor Ward Chapel (1101 E 1250 N). The family will meet with friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Thursday morning from 10:00 till 10:40 A.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
