Shirlene Fay Long, 75, of Shelley passed away December 8, 2017 at The Gables in Shelley.
She was born March 8, 1942 in Pocatello, Idaho to Sylvia Jane Cox and Thomas Marler. Her childhood was spent in Pocatello, Idaho. She attended Franklin Jr. High and Pocatello High School. She married Brent Evan Long on May 29. 1958 in Pocatello, Idaho. Brent joined the Navy and they moved to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for 5 years. They then moved to Pensacola, Florida and Washington D.C. They served for 23 years in the Navy traveling throughout the world. After their release from the Navy they moved to Shelley, Idaho and spent the next 30 plus years there raising their family.
Shirlene managed Beehive Clothing in Idaho Falls for approximately 13 years and enjoyed her service there. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in various callings throughout her life including Relief Society President and early morning Seminary Teacher.
Shirlene enjoyed sewing and loved to make doll clothes. She loved being a mother and grandmother and played a large roll in raising three families of grandchildren.
She is survived by her spouse of 58 years, Brent Evan Long of Shelley, Idaho and children, Kimberly Hansen (Willard) of Wapello, Idaho, Katherine Layman of Portland, Oregon, Kenneth Long (Jennifer) of Firth, Idaho and fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by one Sister, Phyllis Haskett of Pocatello, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father and her son, Kip DeVere Long.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Woodville First Ward Chapel (1555 North 700 East). The family will meet with friends Saturday morning form 9:00 till 10:40 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
