Shirley Phillips Short, 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Basalt, Idaho on April 11, 2016.
He was born on the Osage Reservation in Oklahoma in the year of 1927.
He was preceded in death his wife, Arlene Keller, father, Darius Short and mother, Cleo Mary Zinn, siblings; Beatrice Eubanks, Doris Bowers, Lawrence Short, S.D. Short, Hale Short, Beverly Short.
He is survived by his sister, Oma Ima Jean Gunter, sons, Eddie (Pat) Short, Monty (Nancy) Short, daughter, Julianne Short Hugues, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Shirley hitch hiked to Idaho from Oklahoma at the age of 13 to see his father Darius. He then met Arlene Keller and was married for 60 years. They were long time residents of Basalt.
Shirley worked for R.T French Co. for 35 years, and several years with Pillsbury potato processing plant in Shelley.
His favorite things to do were fishing, camping and travel, working in his yard and garden.
Making fine wine and homemade pies were his specialties.
His hobby of wood work, making jewelry boxes to give away.
He enjoyed sitting in the back yard to watch and feed the wild birds. He liked to joke and laugh with friends and family.
We will forever remember his smiling face and laughter.
The family would like put out a thank you to his friends and neighbors Kathryn Brown, Verdale and Mona Prestwich for being there for him for so many years.
Graveside services will be 12:00 Noon Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 10:30 till 11:30 a.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley.
