Stephen Joseph Fredrickson

May 1, 1936 — September 27, 2023

On May 1, 1936 it was time for Steve to start his earthly journey. It was not the best of days. The doctors told grandpa he didn’t know if he could save both grandma and the baby.  With help I’m sure, Stephen Joseph was born and mom and baby were fine.  He was born in Burley to Joe and Peggy Fredrickson.

His dad owned a small farm in Declo.  Steve’s Grandpa Fredrickson lived with them and grandpa and Steve were very close.  Grandpa would go get Steve up before the sun came up.  Steve learned how to tell time and know numbers.  Grandpa would open his pocket watch as the sun came up. Steve still has the pocket watch.  When grandpa passed away Steve lost his best friend.  His earliest memories were of him and with him.

When it was time to harvest the crops a thrashing crew would come.  One of the men had a dog, he had taught him that when he pointed his finger at anyone and said, “Hitler” the dog would attack. The man pointed at Steve and before he could move the dog jumped in his chest.  Everyone thought it was funny but Steve and he had to go change his shorts.

Steve and his brother, Stan, and some of their friends in the summer would gather tents and supplies and head for the hills. Grandma would occasionally take them food.  He has many fun stories.

Steve’s mom was a teacher and was offered a job in Blackfoot.  Steve did not want to move but move they did.  Grandpa worked at Charter Seed.  Steve was a senior and played football and basketball.  He was asked to be the produce manager.  Some of the seniors had a “sneak day” and went bowling.  Steve and Charlotte became friends and at the Senior Ball he asked her to marry him. They married on June 24, 1955 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

He changed occupations and worked for Farm Bureau.  Then two years later he decided to work in the Financial field and worked and worked until he passed away.

They moved to Shelley and started their family. What a fun life they had. He coached the baseball team and was the director of Grid Kid Football.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and especially his boys, Stephen, Scott, Stacey, Stuart, and Shane.

We have so many memories.  He will be very much missed.

Steve, his mom and dad, brother, Stan and sister are all together now.
