Stephen Wayne Woolf, Age 67, of Blackfoot, Idaho, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Bingham Memorial Rehabilitation Center in Blackfoot on April 16, 2012.
Stephen was born February 5, 1945 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Max and Elsie Woolf. He spent his childhood in Mud Lake, Oakland California, Idaho Falls, Blackfoot, and Shelley, Idaho farming with his family.
Stephen was active in school activities and his life long passion of the love of outdoor activities started with the simple gesture of a family friend, Walt Elsie when he took him fishing, an activity that Stephen became quite proficient at throughout his life as well as the occasional fishing yarn that he spun for family and friends.
In May of 1963 Stephen graduated from Firth High School, in December of that same year Stephen enlisted in the United States Army as a Military Policeman. During his three year stint in the Army, Stephen was stationed in Korea, Fort Leavenworth Kansas and Fort Carson, Colorado and received his honorable discharge in December of 1966.
Upon discharge, Stephen resumed his peace officer duties when he was hired by the Blackfoot police department in 1967. Stephen was proud to serve the citizens of Blackfoot for 29 illustrious years working in many capacities throughout his distinguished service before retiring in 1996 as a Captain.
While working at the police department Stephen served under six different chiefs while developing countless life long friendships with the people that he served with, developing relationships which he always cherished throughout his life.
On March 27, 1968 he married Christine Sutton of Firth, Idaho. They were married for 44 years and had two children, Tammy (High) and James Woolf. Stephen was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather as he spent countless weekends outdoors with his family. He especially enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to hunt and fish.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Christine Woolf and their children, Tammy (Mark) High of Blackfoot and James (Meshawn) Woolf of Rigby; Grandchildren, Stephen Woolf, Chad (Chelsey) John, Jerika Woolf, Maddison High, Payton High and Harrison Woolf, his mother, Elsie Woolf of Idaho Falls and brother, Larry (Linda) Woolf of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Max L. Woolf and brother, Leon Woolf.
A viewing will be held at Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley, Idaho on April 19, 2012 from 7-8:30 P.M. and on April 20, 2012 from 10-10:45 prior to internment at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelley, Idaho.
A graveside service will be held on April 20, 2012 at 11 A.M. at the Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites by David B. Bleak Post 93 assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.
