Sylvia Gaye Barnett Aland, surrounded by her family, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on July 29

, 1938 to Vance Hyrum Barnett and Lila Millie Wadsworth Barnett.
Gaye was raised on the family farm in Taylor. Her schooling from the first through eighth grades was at Taylor. She graduated from Shelley High School in 1956 and attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
On November 22, 1958 she was united in marriage to Bill Aland of Idaho Falls. They made their home in Pocatello where he was attending Idaho State University and later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she resided until October of 2007. At that time Gaye returned to Taylor to live with and care for her father.
Gaye worked in several different professions. In her early years she worked at Chesbros Music Store in Idaho Falls, at R. T. French in Shelley, the Idaho Nuclear Test Sight and then several years at the Nevada Nuclear Test Sight. Gaye was a very creative, artistic person who found her true calling in the floral industry. She worked as a floral designer for many years in the Las Vegas area and most recently in Idaho Falls and Shelley.
Gaye is survived by her daughter Lisa (Mike) Marudas, and five granddaughters, Lauren (Michael) Lambert, Erin Rosenfeld, Kaelyn Rosenfeld, Kelci Light, Kalli Light and great-granddaughter Makayla Lambert. Her lifelong friend and former spouse Bill Aland. Her father, Vance Barnett, brother Jack (Judy) Barnett, sister Bonnie (Joel) Brown and brother Braxton Barnett. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews her Aunts Echo Young, Betty Maas and Barabara Shannon and many loving cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lila Barnett.
Gaye was a very caring and generous person who had a great love of nature and for animals. She also loved baseball and especially car racing of all kinds. Gaye will be greatly missed by her loving family, friends and her little feline companion Muffin.
A celebration of her life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 West Oak, Shelley, Idaho. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the service.
