Terry Ehlers

October 10, 1956 — May 28, 2024

Terry Lynn Ehlers passed away May 28, 2024, at her parents’ home in Shelley, Idaho, ending her twenty-year battle with cancer. After going into a ten-year remission after her initial cancer treatments, it returned with merciless growth five years ago. Throughout her experience, Terry demonstrated great courage and positivity. Her fight with cancer only amplified Terry’s gentle way, kindness and generosity to others.

Terry was born on October 10, 1956 in Reno, Nevada where she spent the first six years of her life in the neighboring city of Sparks, Nevada. Growing up, she also lived in Selma, California, Lompoc, California and Victoria, Texas where she graduated from high school.

After graduating from BYU in 1980, she started her career in 1981 working for Max Factor in their marketing department. In 1984, she worked for The Los Angeles Olympic committee as the coordinator over 500 volunteers. Following her work at the Olympics, she joined Mattel Toys before switching to Director of Sales at a hotel chain. She returned to Mattel Toys for eighteen years serving in many capacities but ended her time there as Director of Meeting and Travel Services. She finished her career as an independent consultant and meeting planner helping many corporations including Kia Motors and Toyota. Terry was the go-to person at many meetings by being the person responsible for managing every event detail, adapting plans and fulfilling any special requests.

Terry never married or had children of her own. However, she became the beloved “Fun Aunt” to her nieces and nephews and “Great Aunt” to grandnieces and grandnephews. She often took nieces and nephews on trips to Disneyland or to Toy Fairs in New York City.

For many years in California, she lived half of a block from Hermosa Beach and regularly opened her home to visiting family members. Terry loved her California life filled with friends and work associates. She also was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout her life.

During her time as an independent consultant, she moved from Hermosa Beach to Salt Lake City, Utah in the Sugarhouse area to be closer to family. She lived there until she moved to Idaho to help her parents, but it soon turned into Terry needing help as her cancer symptoms escalated.

Terry leaves behind her parents Wesley and Georgia Ehlers of Shelley, ID and her siblings Michael (Lanette) Ehlers of Shelley, ID, Mark Ehlers of Charlottesville, VA and Ann Burch of Shelley, ID.

Terry and her family are grateful for the Shelley 5th Ward for the selfless service in her behalf, performing innumerable acts of kindness at a moment’s notice. Her family’s hope is that many blessings have been and will be given to these saintly people.

Terry was always a kind and gentle person. Her generosity with her time and money extended to all types of people including family, friends and strangers. She loved the beach, the water and the sunshine of California. She traveled the world for her jobs and rubbed shoulders with many famous people while growing a strong reputation for her friendly, helpful, easy-going but efficient way. Terry’s legacy of sharing will continue even after her death leaving the world a better place because she lived and loved and served in it.
