Val Gene Bateman

Val Gene Bateman, 72, of Shelley, ID peacefully passed away on September 28, 2017 in his home, with his loving wife Lenor Bateman, after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Val was born November 3, 1944 in San Marcus, TX to LaVal and Vivian Bateman. He grew up in Shoshone and Gooding, ID and moved to New Meadows, ID where he graduated as valedictorian of his class.

He attended Links School of Business in Boise, ID. He married Vera “Lenor” Antrobus Bauer on July 6, 1964 in Boise, ID. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 20, 1966. He was active in the LDS Church in his later life and filled a mission at the Family History Center in Idaho Falls, ID. He worked 43 years in heavy construction for Bateman Brothers, Burgraff, Lim, and HK Construction.

Val and Lenor had 8 beautiful children, 7 daughters, 1 son, 26 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren (arriving soon). Val was very proud of his children and grand-children. He loved hunting, steelhead fishing, Native American Pow-Wows and Mountainman Rendezvous. He also enjoyed family reunions and spending time with his siblings.

Val is survived by his spouse Vera “Lenor” Bateman, his children: Tauna (Russell) Braiden, Linda (Marvin) Jackman all from Idaho Falls, ID, Audra Bateman and Jeanna Bateman both of Shelley, ID, Tara (Jon) Goetzel of Gilbert AZ, Janna Bateman of Salt Lake City, UT, Steve (Tracey) Bateman of Casper, WY and Erika (Ross) Gregersen of Pocatello, ID. He is also survived by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Larry (Vickie) Bateman of Shelley, ID, Darla (Pieter Unema) Gill of Salt Lake City, UT, Randy (Terry) Bateman of Buhl, ID and Ronnie (Bonnie) Bateman of Pocatello, ID.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday October 2, 2017 at the Shelley South Stake Building, (675 S. Milton Ave.) in Shelley, ID. The family will receive friends Sunday evening October 1, 2017 from 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Monday morning from 9:30 till 10:40AM before the service at the church. Graveside service will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, (803-823 Baseline Road), Shelley, ID 83274 following the funeral service.
