Vaughn Charles Anderson passed away December 27, 2017 in his sleep. He was born April 24, 1935 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Justin Charles Anderson and Alice May McIntyre.
He had four brothers and one sister. He went to elementary school in Ammon, Idaho and later his family moved to Shelley where he worked with his father farming and taking care of livestock. At 13 years old, he earned his Eagle Scout Award, and was one of the youngest scouts to earn the distinguished award.
Vaughn was active in sports during his school years and played baseball, basketball, football, and he boxed. He graduated from Shelley High School and attended college in Logan Utah. He married Deanna Cox on April 6, 1955 and they had seven children. They were later divorced. He married Clara Rose Trotchie December 27, 1962 and they raised two children.
Vaughn had a number of occupations throughout his life that took him to many different places. California, Washington, Guatemala, and Alaska were just a few of the places he went to and some of his occupations included prospecting, short and long-haul truck driving, logging, farming, ranching, demolition and construction.
For the past 40 years, Vaughn resided in Roberts, Idaho where he and Clara owned and operated sand and cinder pits, a farm, a ranch, and a construction company. Vaughn enjoyed a challenge and loved to work. He was an expert heavy equipment operator and truck driver and had an ability to see a good opportunity and act on it fearlessly. He also enjoyed buying and refurbishing equipment for resale. He was an avid reader and loved to fish. Another activity he also enjoyed was flying airplanes. He showed his children and grandchildren the value of hard work and persistence.
Vaughn is survived by his brothers Delmar (Myrna), Kenneth, sister Gloria (Larry) Hayes, children Shawna (Mel) Wardell, V. Scot (Karen), Janet (Jay) Hammer, LaNae Surerus, Kirk, Greg, Stephanie, and Brian (Alesa), 22 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dwain and Justin Jean, daughter Diane Spencer, granddaughters, Kassilina Schroeder and Sarah Anderson, and great-grandson Hayden Chapa.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley. The family will meet with friends Saturday morning from 11:30 till 12:40 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
