Velma J. Young returned to her heavenly father peacefully on the evening of June 3rd, 2024 at Rosetta Assisted Living in Pocatello, Idaho.
Velma was born December 8, 1937 to Ethel and William Vernon "Buck" Jones in Firth, Idaho. She graduated from Jordan high school in Sandy, Utah, Then served an LDS mission in Scottland where she learned and developed a love for their culture and spoke of the mission field often.
On July 5, 1974 she married the love of her life Michael Clayton Young in the Provo Utah Temple. The morning after their wedding they moved to Basalt, ID where they adopted their daughter Caroline in 1978, and later in 1995, blessed with a granddaughter, Makenzie.
Velma had a strong testimony for the church of Jesus Christ and served many positions in her life, her favorite being teaching primary to the sunbeams.
She also was a member of The Utah Daughters of the Pioneers.
Velma worked for The Pioneer Newspaper out of Shelly Idaho before she retired around 2010.
She is survived by her daughter Caroline Underhill of Fort Hall, Idaho, Her Granddaughter Makenzie Young of Salt Lake City, Utah, 3 great grandchildren ; Malieke Michael Allan, Makievah Carolee Ann, and Treyble Christian Lee Alvarez. Siblings; Melvin Duane (Fay) Jones of Kenab, Utah, Carla (Wally) Hardy of Salt Lake City, Utah, Laura Jones of Salt Lake City, Utah, and John (Kathy) Jones of Stansbury, Utah.
She was proceeded in death by her loving husband, her loving parents and 6 siblings, Peggy Davis, Glenn Jones, Clifford Jones, Doris Beach, Stanley Jones, and Mildred Kay Mantle.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday June 10, 2024 at the Basalt LDS church (823 North 675 East). The family will receive friends Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. till 10:45 am at the church. Internment will be in the Basalt cemetery.
