Vernal Dean Cromwell

September 8, 1926 — April 16, 2014

Vernal Dean Cromwell, 87, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on April 16, 2014.

Vern was born September 8, 1926 to Joseph William Cromwell and Myrtle Brown Cromwell in Irwin.  He was raised in Coltman and Idaho Falls.  He attended and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in January of 1945.

He was drafted into the United States Army in February of 1945 serving in the Philippines and Korea.  He was Honorably Discharged June 2, 1946.

He married Barbara Grace Cook on September 20, 1950.  Together they raised 4 children and worked on their family farm.  Barbara passed away April 10, 2014.

He worked at Idaho Potato Growers; RT French; Idaho Supreme; Pro-Ida; US Geological Survey; EG&G and was an Instructor at Eastern Idaho Vocational Center.

He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling; gardening; coffee and cookies with his grandchildren on Sunday mornings and Sunday family dinners.

He is survived by his sister, Marian (Earl) Goodson; his three daughters, Christine Cromwell; Dena (Chris) Harker; Tana (Mark) McKenzie and his son, Loren (Laurie) Cromwell; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A joint funeral service with his wife will be held at 11:00 am on April 18, 2014 at Fox Hollow Ward Chapel, 2345 W 17

S in Idaho Falls.  The family will receive friends Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W Oak St in Shelley, and Friday from 10:00 to 10:40 am at the church prior to services.  Burial will be in the New Sweden Cemetery with military rites by the Bonneville County Veterans Team assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.
