Virgel Leroy Willyerd

Virgel Leroy Willyerd, 92, of Idaho Falls, former Wilford and Firth resident passed away May 21, 2006 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

He was born November 29, 1913 at Woodville, Idaho to Leroy Albert and Margaret Melissa Humphries Willyerd.  

Virgel farmed at Wilford, Idaho until the Teton dam broke in 1976.  He then relocated to a farm south of Firth on Wolverine Road until he retired. 

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as Bishop in the Wilford Ward from 1960 to 1967, High Councilman and Stake Patriarch and worked in the Idaho Falls Temple.

He married Beulah Marie Douglas on March 14, 1934 in the Logan LDS Temple.  She preceded him in death in 1972.  He later married Laveta Walker Nelson on March 8, 1975 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  They served two missions together for the LDS church in Calgary, Canada and Boston, Massachusetts.

He is survived by his wife, Laveta Willyerd of Idaho Falls, two sons, Robert (Verda) Willyerd of Rockville, Maryland, Keith (Bessie) Willyerd of Blackfoot, Idaho, two daughters, Norma (Jacob) Johnston of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Carole (Floyd) Burnett of Logan, Utah, 23 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, two step sons, Wendall (Audrey) Nelson of Honolulu, Hawaii, Doyle (Vickie) Nelson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, two step daughters, Carol (Francis) Cleverley of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Janet (Jim) Jensen of Garden City, Utah, 17 step grandchildren, 31 step great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild, two sisters, Lavern Tomchak of Roberts, Idaho and Verla (Dale) Harker of Nampa, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Beulah, one grandson, Brian Eric Willyerd, one sister, Thelma Jensen, two brothers, Max and Harold Willyerd.

Funeral services will be held Friday May 26th at 11:00 A.M. at the Kimball Ward Chapel (744 N. 600 E) in Firth with Bishop Bruce Anthony conducting. The family will receive friends Thursday evening 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 W. Oak) in Shelley and Friday morning 10:00 till 10:40 A.M. at the church. Interment will be at the Fielding Memorial Cemetery.
