Wesley Ronald Ehlers

April 4, 1938 — February 22, 2025

Wesley Ronald Ehlers passed away peacefully February 22, 2025 at his home in Shelley, Idaho at the age of 86. Wes worked hard all his life growing up on a farm and managing purebred cattle ranches his entire working career. In “retirement” he worked for ST Genetics, an artificial bull breeding program for purebred cattle. He travelled all over Southeast Idaho meeting with ranchers. He was a top salesman and won several awards and trips. He was still receiving a commission check at the time of his passing.

Wes was born April 4, 1938 in La Moille, Illinois approx 100 miles west of Chicago. He grew up in a small farming community that even today has only 679 people. As a young boy, he learned how to work hard, working with cattle and doing other farm duties. His only sibling was Barbara who was born 3 years after he was born and passed away in 2022. His Parents were both born in La Moille and they, and their neighbors were all of German Descent.

Wes leaves behind his wife Georgia Ehlers of Shelley, ID and his children, Michael (Lanette) Ehlers of Shelley, ID, Mark Ehlers of Charlottesville, VA, Barbara Ann Burch of Shelley, ID. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Terry Ehlers, who passed away last May in Shelley, ID. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Wes met his wife Georgia while she was working as a part time secretary for the cattle ranch he was managing in Reno, Nevada. They were married April 16,1964, and were married nearly 61 years.

Wes was a hard worker all his life. He managed cattle ranches in California (2), Texas (2), Virginia (4), Georgia ,Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Twice they almost moved to Colorado, which caused some family drama and created memories. Purebred cattle ranches were mainly owned by fairly rich business people who sometimes grew tired of the ranches or ran out of money, and sometimes Dad was offered a better deal elsewhere. He finally “retired” to Idaho to be closer to family and the Temple. Wes and Georgia enjoyed being able to serve for years in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Dad joined the LDS church about a year after marrying Georgia. Some faithful home teachers guided him along the path. Like everything else, he worked hard in the church. He served several times as a Branch President. He also served as Bishop and on the High Council, usually in very rural areas where the local church house was usually 30 to 45 minutes away.

Wes and Georgia, and the whole Ehlers Family are grateful for the Shelley 5th ward’s selfless service in helping them both these past few years. Their whole neighborhood has been available at all hours to help them.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Shelley 5th Ward Chapel at 513 South Park Avenue. The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:45AM at the church. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
