Yeppa Daines Lund

On Monday, September 26, 2022, at the age of 87, Yeppa Daines Lund, of Shelley, Idaho, our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather, peacefully entered into the arms of our loving Heavenly Father.

Daines was born in Logan, Utah, on December 22, 1934, to Catherine Alvenia Daines and Yeppa Lund. He attended Malad High School where he played the saxophone in the school band, was the school photographer, and a member of the Quill and Scroll Organization. Upon high school graduation, he attended Brigham Young University. In March of 1955, he was called to serve a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he sailed on the Queen Mary to the British Isles Mission. Upon his return, he attended the University of Utah where he met the love of his life, Joyce Ann Martin. On June 26, 1959, Daines and Joyce were married in the Logan LDS Temple. It was a wonderful beginning of a wonderful marriage. Once in a while right in the middle of ordinary life, love gives us a fairytale. Daines and Joyce, the love of his life, were never seen without the other by their side. They lived in SLC while Daines worked for the University of Utah Medical Library and attended school part-time. In 1961, they moved to Provo, Utah, where he worked various part-time jobs while attending BYU full time and majoring in physics. Upon graduation, Daines was offered a job at Ireco Chemical Company in SLC and worked there for six months. Daines then took a job at Aeronutronics, a Division of Philco-Ford Company, located in Newport Beach, CA, and moved his young family to Laguna Hills, CA. After working over 4 years in California, layoffs in the aerospace industries began to number in the thousands. Because of the insecurity of the industry and also doubting the wisdom of raising their children in southern California, they started looking for alternative jobs and prayed for guidance.

Daines had always wanted to own a farm, and it seemed to be the best solution for raising a large family. As he and Joyce were visiting Cache Valley to check out employment, they visited a dairy farm in Lewiston, Utah. With confirmation in their hearts, they purchased the George Pond dairy farm and moved their family to Lewiston, Utah in April 1970. After receiving his teaching certificate at Utah State University, he worked full time at Bonneville High School in Ogden, UT, and as a substitute teacher at North Cache Jr. High in Richmond, UT. In September 1975, Daines received an offer to work at Utah State University in the Physics Department, where he lived another one of his dreams, overseeing all the student physics labs and teaching for over two decades.

He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, fulfilling various church callings including a full-time mission with his eternal companion to the Connecticut, Hartford Mission. Daines and Joyce retired in Smithfield, Utah, and later relocated to Shelley, Idaho. During their retirement, they enjoyed traveling abroad. However, as family was always their priority, they made sure to fill their precious time with their children and grandchildren. Heavenly Father was a great source of guidance and protection for both Daines and Joyce as they navigated the ups and downs of life together. We will forever cherish our parents' example of grace, kindness, and charity.

Daines is survived by his 8 children, Bruce Lund, Gregory (Shay) Lund, Loren (Holli) Lund, Kurt Lund, Lisa (Steve) Jones, Aaron (Fiauna) Lund, Janelle (Ryan) Carter, Heather (Jason) Cheshire, 33 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, his parents, Yeppa and Catherine, his brothers Kenneth, Russell, Howard, Lorenzo, and Robert, and his sisters Wildene Howells, Lapriel Schumann, and Karen Stucki.

A viewing for the public will be held from 9:00am till 10:40am on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1555 N 700 E, Shelley, Idaho, with services to follow starting at 11:00am. The service will be broadcast live (and recorded) at www.youtube.com/channel/UCxdeJYiOmVl1nbTpUH7nogg/videos. A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm at the Logan, Utah Cemetery.
